NAB Sign Albert Richardson, 1977
NAB Gallery, a non-profit, artist-run organization, maintains and provides space for use as a gallery for public exhibition of art by artists from Chicago and vicinity.
Since 1973 NAB Gallery has been committed to the artist, providing a framework of support that includes space to work, space to exhibit, and a space to exchange ideas.
1977 NAB Gallery moved from its namesake, Northside Auditorium Building (Metro/Smart Bar) to West Hubbard Street to extend its commitment through a series of theme shows that focused on trends of current interest to Chicago artists.
1981 NAB Gallery moved once again to the near West Side to 331 S. Peoria at Van Buren. While doubling its space, NAB widened its scope of thematic shows by inviting artists, critics and educators to make multi-art presentations, workshops and panel discussions.
1985 NAB Gallery moved to 1115 W. Grand, a smaller space, which narrowed the focus of special events, performances, and exhibits. One act plays were started, such as Wallace Shawn's "Appendix to Aunt Dan & Lemon."
1991 NAB moved to its present location at 1117 W. Lake to develop in depth exhibits and workshops such as, "Aesthetic Exegesis: The Implied Rule." Currently a group of artists show how they influence each other's work in "Unavoidable Influential Friends, Too," a summer show which rotates work every time an "influence" is felt. Drawings, paintings, sculpture, and constructions, by Ben Dallas, Ludwig Wilding, Tim VanLaar, Bob Horn, Russ Horvath, Gordon Powell, Ruth Essermann, Rachel Sons, Perry Pollack, Susan Lee, Marguerite Sandrock, Sarah Krepp, Greg Gillis, Manny Elson, and many more.
